Health and Safety policy
Knightsbridge Removals Health and Safety Policy
Knightsbridge Removals is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and welfare for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our work. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety in all removal, packing, loading, transport and delivery activities carried out by our company.
Our Health and Safety Commitments
We will take all reasonably practicable steps to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health. Health and safety considerations are integral to the planning and execution of every removal job, from initial survey through to completion. Management, supervisors and staff at all levels share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment.
We aim to continually improve our health and safety performance by monitoring our activities, learning from incidents and near misses, and updating our procedures in line with best practice and legal requirements.
Legal Compliance and Responsibilities
Knightsbridge Removals complies with all applicable health and safety legislation and regulations relevant to the removals and transport sector. Management is responsible for ensuring that this policy is implemented, communicated and reviewed on a regular basis.
All employees and contractors must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must follow all safety procedures, use equipment correctly and report any hazards, accidents or near misses to their supervisor without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Prior to each removal or delivery, relevant risks are assessed and appropriate control measures are put in place. This includes considering access to properties, stairways, parking arrangements, manual handling requirements, weather conditions and any specific customer needs.
Safe systems of work are developed for typical removal activities, including packing, dismantling and reassembling furniture, lifting and carrying items, moving goods through confined spaces, and loading and unloading vehicles. These procedures are communicated to staff and are reviewed and updated as needed.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
As manual handling is a core part of our service, particular emphasis is placed on safe lifting techniques and the correct use of handling aids. Staff receive training in safe manual handling to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Where possible, heavy or awkward items are moved using equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, straps and ramps.
All equipment is inspected regularly and maintained in a safe condition. Faulty or damaged equipment is taken out of service immediately and reported to management. Only trained and authorised personnel are permitted to operate specialist equipment.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Company vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition through regular checks, servicing and inspections. Drivers must conduct pre-use checks and report any defects promptly. Loads are secured safely to prevent movement, damage or risk to other road users during transit.
All drivers are required to follow road traffic laws, drive responsibly, and plan journeys to minimise risks such as fatigue and adverse weather conditions. Where appropriate, route planning takes into account property access, parking restrictions and local traffic conditions.
Work Environment, Housekeeping and Site Safety
We aim to keep all working areas, including customers homes and business premises, as safe and tidy as reasonably practicable. Walkways are kept clear of obstructions, and packing materials or debris are removed promptly to reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls.
When working in multi-occupancy buildings or shared spaces, our teams take care not to obstruct communal areas, entrances or fire escape routes. Signage and barriers are used when necessary to warn others of work in progress.
Customer and Public Safety
The safety of customers and members of the public is a key priority. Our teams are instructed to be mindful of people in and around the work area and to take steps to minimise risks, for example by controlling access to areas where heavy items are being moved or where floors may be temporarily slippery.
Where practical, customers are advised of any short-term risks during the move, such as trailing cables, dismantled furniture or stacked boxes, and are encouraged to keep children and pets away from active work zones.
Training, Information and Supervision
All staff receive appropriate health and safety induction and ongoing training relevant to their roles, including manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle safety and emergency procedures. Additional training is provided when new risks are identified or when new equipment or working methods are introduced.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices, correcting unsafe behaviour and ensuring that safety procedures are followed on every job. Employees are encouraged to raise health and safety concerns and to suggest improvements.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, injuries and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to management. Records are kept and reviewed to identify trends and areas for improvement. Where required, incidents are reported to the relevant authorities.
Emergency procedures are in place for foreseeable situations such as fire, serious injury, vehicle collisions and hazardous spillages. Staff are trained to follow these procedures, including how to summon assistance and how to evacuate premises safely when necessary.
Health, Welfare and Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of protecting the overall health and wellbeing of our staff. Workloads, shift patterns and rest breaks are managed to reduce the risk of fatigue, especially for driving and physically demanding tasks. Staff are encouraged to report any health conditions that may affect their ability to work safely so that reasonable adjustments can be considered.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated as required to reflect changes in legislation, industry practice and our own operations. Risk assessments, incident reports and staff feedback are considered as part of this review.
Knightsbridge Removals is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety. By working together, we aim to provide a professional removals service that protects our employees, our customers and the wider community.
